Floor Plan Design For Master Bedroom
Back in January of '07 I solicited anyone and everyone for floor design ideas. Well, this is what we came up with on paper.
I ended up putting this eyeball pattern all over on a piece of paper and my daughter said, "That's way too busy, Dad." So I erased and erased and erased and we ended up with about half of what I originally started out with.
I had earlier finished the outer ring in the bedroom and just for grins and giggles,
I chalked a herringbone pattern into the center. Some original thoughts were to put that herringbone pattern throughout the house but we decided to put different patterns in different areas. Here is the bedroom's outer ring:
And here is the freshly poured bedroom floor. I hadn't taken off the masking paper yet that I put down to protect the ring. After the center dried and hardened I stuccoed the two straw walls while the masking paper is down. Before you know it, my bedroom is going to be finished!! Then I can move back in... wow!!
Anyway... here is the floor plan with the room that we're talking about:
The closet floor was done first. It is plain with no pattern nor any cedar insets. I did that room before it ever dawned on me that we could put a neat pattern in the floor. I did the pantry with a herringbone pattern after I did the closet. I always use the closets/pantry as the experimental rooms so they always get something done to them first. Well, the pantry turned out so well that I decided to do something similar to all the rooms (maybe not the bathroomstill clueless about that room).
Well, after etching in the pattern (pic on left...kinda hard to pick out the pattern) and putting about 5 coats of linseed oil on and after putting 5 layers of varnish (still looking for a better choice on that last one), here is the finished product on the right (still hard to pick out the pattern).
It actually looks pretty good. Here's a close-up of one of the corners:
As far as the rest of the house goes... I think it would be great to have different themes in the other rooms. Like I said earlier, I don't have a clue about the bathroom. It might be possible for the different rooms to somehow be related or progress through related themes. I don't know, maybe something as simple as the eyeball shape only in the main center room and the oblong rectangle thingy only in the office.
Anyway, to be able to come up with something good is so far above my head. That's why I'm seeking any help that anyone gets inspired to send my way. Here is the floor plan of the entire downstairs:
